Black Labrador

So you’ve chosen a Black Labrador as your version of “Mans Best Friend”. In doing so you’ve added your opinion to many others that have made Labradors (including the Black Labrador) one of the worlds favourite breeds of dog.
Originally from Newfoundland in Canada the Labrador is a close relation to the much larger Newfoundland dog. Odd characteristics of the Labradors ancestors can often emerge in today’s dogs. In particular if your Black Labrador has a flash of white hair in his chest or sports white hairs on his feet or muzzle, don’t worry, that’s just a sign that his folks come from way back, maybe a Newfoundlander itself!
In choosing a Black Labrador you have an original. Although there is some evidence to suggest that Yellow and Chocolate coloured versions of the breed go back a long way it is thought that the original colour was black. Indeed, if popularity is anything to go by then the Black Labrador had it won right up until the beginning of the 20th century. Owners will always have their own opinions of course (that’s what makes us dog owners such nice people) but for my money the Black Labrador will always be the original.
Friendly & versatile and with an altogether “middle of the road” temperament, your Black Labrador is likely to possess all these traits. traits that have lead many to consider the breed as an ideal family dog.
Curious, lively, intelligent – whether you have a Yellow, Chocolate or Black Labrador you’ll certainly have a dog with all these traits and more besides. The friendly face, kindly slightly melancholic eyes? Of course you couldn’t resist!
