Silver Labs

silver labs

One of the hottest topics in dog circles? Well maybe. You may have met Labrador experts that refuse to accept the “existence” of Silver Labs. A mix of Black and Chocolate? A cross of Golden and Black? However, if you’re the owner of that silver coated, friendly, sad eyed companion then you’ll agree with the American Kennel Club that the variant of the breed does exist!  Now it is true that just two gene types give rise to all the variations in Labrador colour that we see in the modern breed. However, the number of gene combinations that can develop through generations of a breeding program soon make it quite a task to understand.

That’s what we love about the dog world. Add the total number of species around the world, times that by the different types of breeds, chuck in various official guidelines and what do you get? Huge amounts of different views, tips, training regimens.. and arguments!

Suffice to say that Silver Labs exhibit all the breed traits and characteristics that people have come to know and love. That even temprement, good nature, compact and powerful frame as well as the famous square head and soft mouth. Labradors have it all and Silver Labs have it all under that glorious shiny silver coat. Somebody once told me that the most surprising thing about owning a Silver Lab was the number of times they got stopped in the street by admiring strangers. Maybe that was enough to make you decide to “buddy up” and start training some Silver Labs?
